As soon as the cancellation for fog in St. Mary's was announced, Allie and I dashed upstairs to the reservations counter. Even though we were third in line, the next flight they could book for us was on Wednesday at 11:00am. We took it eagerly (since there are no other options available to us for getting to St. Mary's), but that news came as a bit of a shock to us. It's fortunate that we're not in this predicament alone; there are actually ten people trying to get to the school in St. Mary's and fifteen students trying to get out for their senior trip.
A cancelled flight is far from ideal, but I feel like we're in the best possible situation for this to happen. We're safe. We have food, transportation, and (thanks to very kind friends in Anchorage) a place to sleep tonight. Additionally, I have enough homework to keep me busy for hours and hours, and the Anchorage city library has a very peaceful quiet area in the Alaska wing with a lovely writing desk. The weather is nice enough to go hiking in the Chugach Mountains today, but at least I have a nice view while I work today. It's also nice to know that while the airline has rebooked our seats on Wednesday there are people with more urgent schedules and better connections working on getting an earlier flight for us.
Even if it's full of unexpected circumstances, I hope that you're having a sunny and joyful Palm Sunday too.
